Snowshoe Hikes – Sherwin Meadows
Take Sherwin Creek Road entrance (just off of Old Mammoth Road). The entrance is basically across the street from the park; just down the road from the Mammoth Creek Inn. Drive down the road and park where parking is allowed.
Follow the Sherwin Creek Road heading South. The road goes up hill slightly and then continues to gradually go down hill.
I usually hike as far as the signage for Sherwin Lake trailhead and then turn around and come back. The out-and-back hike takes about 45 minutes. This is a wide open expanse so you can be exposed to the elements and the wind can be very abrasive.
I once got lost in a white out and ended up at Mammoth Creek near the college. If this happens to you; keep the creek on your right and walk up hill back toward Mammoth. Otherwise you’ll end up in Bishop!
There are usually lots of other folks with their dogs hiking from here. Please be respectful of everyone and pick up your poop and haul it out with you. The blue dog bags work nicely because you can find them on the snow and pick them up on your way out.
